Poly-D,L-Lactic Acid (PDLLA) Volume — Treatment Overview

1. General Information and Description

Poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) is a biodegradable injectable biostimulatory material used to support the skin’s natural collagen production and improve facial volume, firmness, and overall skin quality. PDLLA Volume is designed to provide gradual facial volumisation while stimulating collagen production, making it different from conventional dermal fillers that primarily provide immediate volume.

PDLLA may be used to address areas affected by facial volume loss, reduced skin firmness, and changes in facial contours. Depending on the treatment plan, it may be used in areas such as the cheeks, temples, chin, and lower face to support facial structure and restore a more balanced appearance.

2. How It Works

PDLLA Volume is injected into targeted areas of the face using a fine needle or cannula. The PDLLA particles interact with the surrounding tissue and stimulate fibroblast activity and new collagen production.

As collagen gradually forms around the treated area, the skin may become firmer and the treated region may develop increased volume and structural support. This process allows PDLLA to provide progressive volumisation and tissue remodelling rather than relying solely on the immediate presence of an injectable gel.

The depth, amount, and placement of the product are customised according to the individual’s facial anatomy, degree of volume loss, skin condition, and desired outcome. Treatment may be performed over multiple sessions depending on the patient’s needs.

3. What to Expect and When Results Appear

A PDLLA Volume treatment typically takes around 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. A topical or local anaesthetic may be used to improve comfort during the procedure.

Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, or mild discomfort may occur following treatment. Any initial swelling generally settles as the treatment area recovers.

Unlike conventional fillers, the volumising effects of PDLLA develop progressively as new collagen is produced and tissue remodelling takes place. Improvements may become increasingly noticeable over several weeks to months following treatment.

The number of sessions required varies according to the individual’s degree of volume loss, treatment area, and desired outcome. The duration of results also varies depending on factors such as treatment protocol, individual collagen response, lifestyle, and the area treated.

4. Who Is a Good Candidate

PDLLA Volume may be suitable for individuals who:

• Wish to restore gradually lost facial volume
• Want to support natural collagen production
• Are concerned about reduced skin firmness or elasticity
• Wish to improve facial contours and structural support
• Prefer gradual, natural-looking volumisation
• Want to improve both facial volume and overall skin quality
• Are looking for a minimally invasive approach to facial rejuvenation

A consultation with a qualified medical professional is recommended to assess facial anatomy, skin condition, treatment goals, and suitability for PDLLA Volume treatment. Individual results and treatment requirements may vary.
